The LifeStar Malta Marathon, celebrating its 40th edition (1986–2025), is set to mark a historic milestone with a record number of foreign participants. Over 1,500 athletes from more than 60 countries have already registered for the 2025 event, scheduled for Sunday, February 23. The marathon, half marathon, and the popular 21.0975 km Walkathon will draw athletes and enthusiasts to Malta during one of the leanest touristic periods of the year.

A press conference launching this landmark edition will be held on Thursday, December 12, at 11:30 am, at the Barcelò Hotel Fortina in Sliema. Organizers will present the latest updates and announce awards for Andrew Grech, winner of the international Running Sicily circuit, and the Evolve Endurance Club, champions in the men’s team classification.

Race director Joe Micallef shared the excitement:
“We are receiving many registrations from athletes from all over the world every day. There is great interest in the event, which will celebrate its 40th edition and is preparing to experience one of the most important sporting moments in its history with a record number of participants.”

He added:
“This time last year, we had 800 registered foreign athletes. For the 2024 LifeStar Malta Marathon, the total reached 1,930. The 2025 number is expected to exceed 3,000, significantly contributing to Malta’s economy during this period.”

The marathon’s promotional efforts, spanning major European cities like Warsaw, Budapest, and Florence, have played a key role in driving international interest, ensuring this edition stands out as a significant milestone in the event’s history.
