About Smokie

Emerging in the early 1960s in Bradford, England, school friends Ron Kelly, Chris Norman, Alan Silson, and Terry Uttley formed their first band. After multiple recording contracts and name changes, they finally settled on the name “Smokie,” marking the beginning of their global success. With over 30 million records sold, the band became a household name.

When Chris Norman pursued a solo career, Smokie’s two original members were joined by lead singer Alan Barton. His distinctive voice, energy, and passion propelled Smokie back into the spotlight as a world-renowned touring and recording band.

Today, Alan’s son, Dean Barton, carries on his father’s legacy as the frontman of “Spirit of Smokie.” Following a highly successful memorial concert in March 2008, Dean’s unmistakable “Smokie” voice and dynamic stage presence have solidified the band’s reputation as a world-class act.
